Starting treatment for PTSD can be daunting, but we’ve gathered case studies about people who’ve been through treatment to help you understand the process more.
 
At first, CBT (cognitive behavioural therapy) treatment for PTSD can be tricky to understand and so some people are scared to try it, or simply don’t believe it can effectively treat PTSD – but once you understand the science behind how it works, you can realise it’s such a simple treatment which can create incredible, life changing, long-lasting results in treating PTSD.
 
You don’t have to understand CBT to know it works for many people with PTSD – but we hope that reading these stories give you hope to know that things can get easier, and tomorrow CAN be a new day.
 
CBT is available on the NHS is most areas, so speak to your GP or local mental health team about getting a referral, or find a private CBT therapist near you.

Treatments for PTSD

It is possible for PTSD to be successfully treated many years after the traumatic event occurred, which means it is never too late to seek help. For some, the first step may be watchful waiting, then exploring therapeutic options such as individual or group therapy – but the main treatment options in the UK are psychological treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Traumatic events can be very difficult to come to terms with, but confronting and understanding your feelings and seeking professional help is often the only way of effectively treating PTSD. You can find out more in the links below, or here.
