Everest Base Camp Trek

Join Us for PTSD UK’s 10th Birthday Everest Base Camp Fundraiser Trek

In 2025, PTSD UK marks 10 years of raising awareness, offering support, and fostering hope for all those affected by PTSD & C-PTSD. To honour this milestone, we are planning something truly special—and we want you to be a part of it!

In September 2025, we’ll be bringing together members of the PTSD UK community to take part in a once-in-a-lifetime fundraising trek to Everest Base Camp, Nepal. Along the way, you’ll experience the breathtakingly beautiful scenery of Nepal, trekking through beautiful valleys, dense forests and across glacial rivers, all whilst enjoying awe-inspiring glimpses of the highest point on earth, Everest.

A Journey Beyond the Summit

For those affected by PTSD or C-PTSD, it’s not always about reaching the ‘summit’; sometimes, the most significant victories are found along the way. It isn’t always about an ‘end goal’ in a traditional sense but about finding strength in every step and embracing each small victory along the way. For some, success may mean talking openly to a friend for the first time, reaching out to a GP, or starting treatment. These moments might seem small on the surface, but they’re significant milestones that reflect courage, resilience, and a commitment to healing. That’s why, for our fundraising trek, we’ve set our sights on Everest Base Camp. This isn’t just a stopping point but a powerful symbol of resilience and progress, at a staggering 5,364 metres (17,598 feet) above sea level. Reaching Base Camp is a monumental achievement that requires preparation, dedication, and grit—qualities that resonate deeply with the journey of recovery from PTSD and C-PTSD.

Much like the towering heights of Everest’s summit, Base Camp is an extraordinary goal in its own right. The journey to Base Camp reminds us that success isn’t a single, towering summit—it’s found in every step forward, every new height reached, and every moment of strength along the path. This trek reminds us that progress looks different for everyone, and sometimes the greatest strength is in setting meaningful ‘smaller’ goals and honouring each one. The path to Base Camp mirrors the journey with PTSD or C-PTSD: every step, every effort, and every achievement—no matter how ‘small’—is a testament to resilience and the power of taking each day as it comes.

Why Join the Trek?

This fundraising adventure promises to be much more than just a physical challenge; it’s an opportunity to connect with nature, bond with our PTSD UK community, and, most importantly, make a significant impact on the lives of those affected by PTSD and C-PTSD.

  • Raise Awareness of PTSD & C-PTSD: This fundraiser will spark important conversations that shine a light on the realities of living with PTSD & C-PTSD. By participating, you will help amplify PTSD UK’s message, break down stigma and encourage more understanding and compassion for those affected.
  • Support PTSD UK’s Work: Every step you take on this journey will help raise vital funds to support PTSD UK’s mission, allowing us to reach more individuals who need us, expand our vital resources, and continue spreading hope. In particular, if everyone on the trek reaches their fundraising target, we can fund vital research that will help us campaign for important changes in policy regarding PTSD treatment.
  • Inspire Hope & Challenge Yourself—Your Way: This trek is designed to reflect that personal milestones come in many forms; it’s not about reaching the summit—it’s about embracing the path. Whether you’re taking that first step towards something new or nudging past your comfort zone, by taking part you’ll inspire others with your personal story of hope and healing.
  • Community and Connection: Join a group of like-minded individuals who understand that resilience is a shared journey. Experience the power of unity, support, and collective purpose as you trek through some of the world’s most breathtaking landscapes.

What’s more, you don’t have to be diagnosed with PTSD or C-PTSD to join us. Whether you’re trekking for someone affected by PTSD or C-PTSD, in memory of a loved one or simply in support of everyone affected, every step you take will help to transform lives.

What To Expect On The Trek

Embarking on the Everest Base Camp trek is a journey through stunning Himalayan landscapes, Sherpa villages, and ancient monasteries. Whether you’re an experienced trekker or someone looking for a life-changing experience, this trek is designed for anyone with a passion for adventure and a heart for making a difference.

Participants should anticipate varied terrain, from lush forests to rugged paths, with roughly 6 hours of walking on each full day of trekking. There will also be shorter acclimatisation days, essential to adjust to the altitude, rest, recuperate and ensure a safe and enjoyable experience. The route typically spans 12 to 14 days (depending on weather conditions) allowing time for gradual progress and appreciation of the spectacular surroundings.

To take part, it’s not important whether or not you’re super fit right now. We’ll send training plans to help you get to where you need to be, and the key is to enjoy going slowly. As a rough idea, you’ll need a reasonable level of fitness that allows you to walk 10km (around 6 miles) each day. You can read more about what an Everest Base Camp trek entails here

Our Guides & The Local Community

We’ll be partnering with True Summit Adventures, an organisation with a wealth of experience in bespoke trekking adventures. True Summit Adventures prioritises sustainability and works closely with local communities to ensure that the places they visit are left better than they found them. In choosing to work with them, we aim not only to raise funds to bolster our work supporting all those affected by PTSD & C-PTSD, but also to give back to local communities in Nepal.

Also, for every person that joins the fundraiser, True Summit Adventures have offered to donate 15% of the cost of your trip to PTSD UK, highlighting their commitment to social responsibility and giving back.

SPECIAL SUPPORT FROM True Traveller INSURANCE 💙

As part of our upcoming Everest Base Camp fundraising trek, the amazing team at True Traveller Insurance have kindly offered to refund the cost of eligible travel insurance policies for our trekkers. This includes the add-on required for Everest Base Camp!

For our incredible fundraisers, this generosity means so much more than just saving on an insurance policy. Each trekker has already had to cover a huge range of personal costs themselves — from international flights , visas and trekking permits , to specialist equipment, clothing, and training gear.

For some, the offer from True Traveller has genuinely made taking part possible. It’s lifted a financial burden, given peace of mind, and allowed them to focus on what really matters: raising vital funds to support people affected by PTSD and C-PTSD.

We’re so grateful for this support — it not only lightens the load for our trekkers but also helps ensure every pound they raise goes further towards PTSD UK’s mission.

Thank you, True Traveller Insurance, for helping make this adventure possible! 💙✨

Treatments for PTSD

It is possible for PTSD to be successfully treated many years after the traumatic event occurred, which means it is never too late to seek help. For some, the first step may be watchful waiting, then exploring therapeutic options such as individual or group therapy – but the main treatment options in the UK are psychological treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Traumatic events can be very difficult to come to terms with, but confronting and understanding your feelings and seeking professional help is often the only way of effectively treating PTSD. You can find out more in the links below, or here.
