Santa in the City Run

PTSD UK Spreads Christmas Cheer with Santa Run

Join thousands of Santas on the 6th or 7th of December 2023 at 7:00 pm, in the heart of London for an unforgettable 4.3km festive fun run! Plus, every adult runner is provided with a 5-piece Santa Suit (Hat, beard, jacket, trousers & belt), runner number & medal!

The Santa in the City Run 4.3km route will begin, in front of The Founders Arms and just outside the Tate Modern. You will run along the Thames Embankment, enjoying the world-famous views of the City of London, St Pauls Cathedral, and the Millenium Bridge.

You will then pass the Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre and then turn towards Southwark Bridge, cross over the bridge and then hug the north embankment, going through the Thames’s hidden paths, running towards the Tower of London and Tower Bridge.

You will then return through the City, back over Southwark Bridge to Bankside. After another 500m, you once again take in the views of St Paul’s Cathedral and Millennium Bridge to the finish, where you started from, in front of the Tate Modern, completing a truly iconic route!

No previous experience is needed for a run like this. The route is 4.3km, relatively flat and you can run, jog or walk. Santa in the City is a great way to get you into the festive spirit!

Fundraising

The Santa in the City Run is a great way to help raise awareness of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, PTSD UK and the work we do – plus, it’s an amazing way to fundraise to help support our mission.

There is no required minimum fundraising amount – simply raise as much as you can! How you raise and collect this money is up to you – you could set up a fundraising page on an online platform such as  Facebook Fundraisers, GiveAsYouLive Donateor Just Giving or similar. They help you see your fundraising total, make it easy for your sponsors to add Gift Aid to their donations, and the money raised will get sent straight to us.

Alternatively, or in addition, if you’d like to raise funds offline we’ve got sponsorship forms which might be of use, or if you collect cash donations, you can find out how to pay them into us here.

So, how do I get involved?

Step 1: Sign up online via EventBrite by paying the £24.95 registration fee to PTSD UK (which includes your Santa suit and medal!)

Step 2: Set up your fundraising page (perhaps through  Facebook Fundraisers, GiveAsYouLive Donateor Just Giving or similar)

Step 3: Ask friends, family, and co-workers to support you with a donation – or to join the Santa in the City Run themselves!

Step 4: Collect your Santa suit (or opt for home delivery) and turn up! On the day, perhaps post your run updates, selfies and videos to social media to encourage even more awareness and donations!

Step 5: Feel proud that you have raised awareness and funds to help support PTSD UK!

Please note: Unfortunately due to the strict security rules, the organisers are unable to offer a bag storage facility.

Treatments for PTSD

It is possible for PTSD to be successfully treated many years after the traumatic event occurred, which means it is never too late to seek help. For some, the first step may be watchful waiting, then exploring therapeutic options such as individual or group therapy – but the main treatment options in the UK are psychological treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Traumatic events can be very difficult to come to terms with, but confronting and understanding your feelings and seeking professional help is often the only way of effectively treating PTSD. You can find out more in the links below, or here.
