‘Fallen Mafia’ team up with PTSD UK for a release campaign

Fallen Mafia team up with PTSD UK for a release campaign

We’re delighted to announce that North-East hard rockers, Fallen Mafia have teamed up with PTSD UK and are set to release two reimagined versions of an old classic, How The Story Ends, alongside a Just Giving campaign and live show with all proceeds raised going directly to support PTSD UK.

Fallen Mafia have launched a Just Giving campaign and aim to raise £500 for PTSD UK. This will run alongside a live event which is scheduled to take place at Trillians Rock Bar, Newcastle on Friday 23rd September.

Originally released in 2012, these new releases are aptly referred to as ‘Eye of the Storm’ and ‘Calm after the Storm’ to represent the dynamics of living with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The first track How the Story Ends (Eye of the Storm) is released 19th August and is available on iTunesSpotify and Deezer.

PTSD is a condition which some people develop after experiencing a trauma in their life such as a road traffic accident, bereavement, personal assault, natural disaster, miscarriage, traumatic childbirth, being bullied, sexual violence, childhood abuse, domestic abuse, or fire. It’s estimated that in any given week in the UK, 4 in 100 people have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder – this equates to 2,612,000 people in the UK, yet it’s still an incredibly misunderstood, and still relatively unknown condition which is why projects like this can help immeasurably.

“We have always tried to remain honest about our situation, no matter how difficult it can be to talk about. Hannah suffers with PTSD and works to help treat fellow PTSD sufferers within the prison system. After some research into different charities who support people with PTSD, we chose PTSD UK because of their mission statement and values, and are really excited to be working alongside them across this campaign”.

Jacqui Suttie, CEO and Founder of PTSD UK said ‘We are honoured that Fallen Mafia are dedicating the re-release of this song to help support people affected by PTSD. PTSD can make you feel so helpless and alone, and simply knowing that people care enough to do something like this can make a real impact on people who are struggling. That, coupled with the fundraising they are doing, and the awareness they’ll raise means the absolute world to us. We’re excited to be able to partner with them on this release and reach more of the people who need our support”.

Writing songs with powerful meaning has always been a recurring theme with Fallen Mafia and this is no exception. ‘How The Story Ends’ captures a personal perspective of living with PTSD. Told through the eyes of Hannah looking back at herself as a young girl, How the Story Ends speaks of with understanding and experience of an unimaginable situation. It offers a hand of hope, not only to that little girl who is lost in the darkness, but to others who are going through similar situations.

“PTSD can affect people in so many ways and no two situations are the same.  How The Story Ends is a very personal song, but it has resonated with so many people over the years for many different reasons, even before they knew the full meaning of the song. We wanted to experiment with our music and showcase a raw side to the band. An unplugged version of the song has really helped us to do that, and the rest has evolved from there.”

How the Story Ends (Eye of the Storm) is released on 19th August and How the Story Ends  (Calm after the Storm) is due for release on 2nd September.

Treatments for PTSD

It is possible for PTSD to be successfully treated many years after the traumatic event occurred, which means it is never too late to seek help. For some, the first step may be watchful waiting, then exploring therapeutic options such as individual or group therapy – but the main treatment options in the UK are psychological treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprogramming (EMDR) and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT).

Traumatic events can be very difficult to come to terms with, but confronting and understanding your feelings and seeking professional help is often the only way of effectively treating PTSD. You can find out more in the links below, or here.
